What we collect and why

• The registration you check, to run the check. Vehicle records are not usually personal data, but we treat them carefully. We never show the full VIN.
• Your email address, if you give it, to send your report link and receipt. Legal basis: performing our contract with you. We don't use it for marketing.
• Payment details are collected and held by Stripe, not by us. We receive confirmation of payment and the last four digits of the card.
• A scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, to limit how many free checks one person can run. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse. It is deleted after 30 days.
• Your record of consent to immediate supply of the report, which we have to be able to show.

Who we share it with

• CheckCarDetails, our vehicle data supplier, receives the registration you check.
• Stripe processes your payment.
• Netlify hosts the website and database.
• Resend sends your report email, if you gave an email address.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.

Cookies

CarVett doesn't currently set analytics or advertising cookies. If that changes, we'll ask for your consent first.

How long we keep it

Orders and reports are kept for 6 years for tax and accounting purposes. Rate-limit records are deleted after 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, or object to how we use it. Email us. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
